Scouting Report

Undersized, but not overlooked, 5-11 and 220 pound Cincinnati linebacker Perry Young has been a stat sheet stuffer for the Bearcat defense. While he is a tweener, stuck between a safety and linebacker, Young has shown the ability to make plays and step up when the Cincinnati defense needs him most.

On the season, Young has tallied 31 solo tackles, six tackles for loss, two interceptions, a defensive touchdown, and three passes defended. Young has displayed great ability and range in coverage, as he can play in zone well or take a running back out of the backfield in man coverage as well.

Young is a bit slow in reading and reacting to what is happening in front of him, however, as he seems to be a step too slow against the run. Additionally, his hustle and backside pursuit are not anything special to write home about. The redshirt senior linebacker can, however, be effective when assigned to attack on a blitz.

The redshirt senior linebacker will have his hands full this weekend as Memphis’ Brady White has been one of the best in the nation this season. This will be a great test and opportunity for Young to put his talents on full display.
