Stock Down: Oregon and only Oregon

Justin Herbert | Senior | Quarterback

Justin Herbert is still considered a first-round pick by many, with some touting the signal-caller as the top quarterback of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, he was just plain underwhelming. He stared down his receivers and seemed impatient in the pocket, rushing his reads and lacking discipline in setting his feet before his throw. In addition, Herbert didn’t have the best ball placement, as his second interception was a clearly forced throw way to the left of his receiver.

Herbert has led his team to be the sixth-ranked team in the nation, but this upset displayed some clear deficiencies in his game. Herbert needs to maintain his pocket presence, staying patient in his reads, and delivering throws with a consistent base. All quarterbacks have off games, but losing to a 5-5 roster while also looking more like a sophomore than senior is not reassuring.

Deommodore Lenior | Junior | Cornerback

Lenior had a terrible game and was embarrassed almost all night. Whether it was Aiyuk or Darby torching him on each route, Lenior looked stiff in his hips. He lacked fluidity, burst upfield, and acceleration to keep up or recover. But most of all, he seemingly played scared. Frequently, he would easily bite on inside moves, double moves, and even just the sharpest cuts. Lenior looked outclassed.

While he has shown flashes of first-round talent, Lenior is primarily a day two selection that easily played like an undrafted free agent all game. Lenior really needs to up his game to close the season in order to diminish this performance in scout’s memories.
