Scouting Report

Playing alongside another talented safety in J.R. Reed, Richard Lecounte has separated himself as the top dog in the Georgia secondary. Smaller in stature at 5’11” (might be a little generous) and 180lbs, Lecounte plays with a pitbull mentality on the back end.

Lecounte is very good with his awareness as the last line of defense and mentally processes plays well. He is good at diagnosing run or pass and trusts what he sees. Will trigger aggressively and get downhill without hesitancy when he diagnoses run. Distributes his coverage very well when having to split and leverage routes has a half field defender.

A dynamic athlete who has solid range to be a deep safety in cover 3 looks who can read the eyes of the quarterback and understand where he needs to lean his help towards. Breaks on throws with good burst to get from hash to sideline. Solid ball skills understands when he can make a play on the football in the air and when he needs to just dislodge the man from the ball.

Very good change of direction abilities to come out of his pedal and drive downhill without wasting steps. Hip fluidity is impressive as he can speed turn and put himself back in good position effortlessly Comes out his breaks downhill with good balance and very good burst to close the space on receivers and make a play on the ball.

Next. Wisconsin vs. Minnesota: 5 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch. dark

An efficient tackler who is good at getting ball carriers on the ground and limiting receivers to minimal yards after the catch. Has the coverage abilities to effectively cover receiving tight ends while offering versatility as a slot defender.

Can be overaggressive in his run fits and over pursue the ball. Lacks functional strength to consistently shed blocks and may get bodied by bigger tight ends while in coverage. Richard Lecounte is an intriguing day two option at safety who will provide an enforcer on the back end with solid coverage abilities and ball skills.
