Wisconsin vs. Minnesota: 5 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch
By Seth Steere
Zack Baun will be one of the more versatile players taking the field on Saturday; he can drop back into coverage as well as rush the passer.
Standing 6’3″ and weighing 240-pounds, Baun is a tad undersized to be a traditional edge rusher and will likely play a similar role in the NFL that he does for the Badgers. At times Wisconsin will drop him into coverage where he can show off his movement skills; he has phenomenal fluidity in his bottom half for someone his size, which allows him to cover tight ends and running backs out of the backfield.
He is not just a smooth operator when dropping back into, but for an undersized pass rusher, he does well getting after the quarterback too. Being undersized, Baun is not going to overpower offensive tackles, but he has shown the ability to convert his speed to power. Regardless of his size, he is still able to get opposing tackles on their heels with his bull-rush.
For Baun to reach an elite level as a pass rusher he will need to add more pass rush moves to his arsenal. However, his first step alone can win the edge against most defenders; his athletic traits are likely to get him drafted somewhere in the top 150 picks when the draft rolls around.
