The 2020 NFL Draft could see a different team president in charge of proceedings for the Washington Redskins, with Dan Snyder mulling a change.

The change Washington Redskins fans have long since been hoping for in the front office may be about to come at the end of the season.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported owner Dan Snyder is “truly evaluating” the status of team president Bruce Allen.

Allen’s position of power in the Redskins’ front office has long since been a major bone of contention among Washington fans.

He has been in the president/general manager position since 2010 and in his time making the personnel decisions in Washington the Redskins have had only three winning seasons.

Allen also oversaw the Kirk Cousins negotiations, which turned into a saga spanning multiple offseasons and ended with him leaving to sign for the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. The Redskins have lurched from one controversy to another in recent times and Allen, along with Snyder, is seen by most as the reason for their continued dysfunction.

That Snyder is potentially looking to start fresh is no surprise. Washington will be searching for a new head coach come the end of the season and potential candidates are more likely to be receptive about taking up the position with a new general manager/president at the helm.

Allen’s track record may also count against him. He has been in charge of multiple drafts and the Redskins have had precious little success. The 2020 draft — in which Washington is likely to have a top-five pick — is the most important of recent years for the Redskins, who will need to put as much talent as they can around quarterback Dwayne Haskins. It is at best debatable whether Allen deserves to have the keys to that draft.

The bottom line is that, after such a miserable season in which attendances at FedEx Field have rapidly dwindled, someone had to fall on their sword. Jay Gruden was dismissed earlier in the season and Snyder cannot be the one to pay the price. If there is to be a fall guy, it will be Allen.
