Isaiah Simmons LB
Scouting Report
As soon as Alabama linebacker, Dylan Moses went down before the start of the season with a torn ACL, Isaiah Simmons quickly inserted himself as the top linebacker prospect in the country. While I was hesitant to declare Simmons as the top prospect it’s near impossible to argue otherwise after his stellar season this year.
At the beginning of the year, it was unclear exactly what position Simmons would play at the next level; safety or linebacker? He’s put that question to rest as he has played more linebacker than safety this year, but his size and skillset should keep him on the field on every down in the NFL. Simmons is 6’4″ 230 pounds and will likely run his 40 at the combine somewhere in the low 4.4 range with the chance to hit the high 4.3s.
He has put his speed and movement skills on display again and again and did so against South Carolina on Saturday when he ran deep with one of South Carolina’s wide receivers.
Whether or not you the NFL decides to put Simmons at linebacker or safety should not have too much of an effect on how much success he will find. His versatility will have defensive coordinators heads spinning with all the different ways they can use his talents.
