Scouting Report

Zack Baun was highlighted in a recent article: Wisconsin vs. Minnesota: 5 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch, and he was certainly one to watch in Saturday’s game. He was all over the field for the Badgers and absolutely stuffed the stat sheet. Baun finished with 9 total tackles, 2 sacks, and 2.5 tackles-for-loss.

As my colleague, Cory Kinnan, pointed out, Baun may not have the size to be a traditional edge rusher at the next level. He comes in at 235 pounds according to Wisconsin’s website and in the NFL you’re likely to get thrown around like a rag doll. Fear not Baun fans because there is still a route for him to be successful as he remains one of the more underrated prospects.

He has a great blend of size and mobility in his lower half. Even if Baun is forced to move to a more traditional linebacker position, he has the requisite athleticism and a nose for the ball. Even if moved to linebacker his pass-rushing ability will still come in handy on blitzes and sub-packages.

Despite not being the most stout player on the field he has had success getting to the quarterback in his final year, finishing the regular season with 11.5 sacks. Zack Baun just makes plays, and whether or not you like him as a pass rusher or a linebacker, he has done well in raising his draft stock not only against Minnesota but all year and will look to continue pace against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Big-10 championship game next Saturday.
