The Sooners came out of Bedlam with a win due to their excellent run game on a very windy day against Oklahoma State. That being said, Jalen Hurts was much more efficient as a passer and didn’t suffer through turnover problems for the first time in a few games. Despite the less than ideal weather, he completed all but three of his passes and accounted for two touchdowns on the day. It was a solid end to a spectacular season for him.
Hurts has always been an exceptional running quarterback, but he has looked like a different and much-improved passer in 2019 under Lincoln Riley. That allowed him to join an exclusive club of quarterbacks that have thrown for over 3,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards in a season. He has also scored a very impressive 50 total touchdowns this season which is good for most in all of college football.
Any other year Hurts would likely be the man to beat for the Heisman Trophy. That just goes to show how impressive some of the other players have been this season as well. As it is, Jalen Hurts should already be locked in as an invite to the Heisman Trophy ceremony in New York.
He will have one more chance to improve his standing for the Heisman in the Big 12 Championship. His Sooners will have a rematch with 9th-ranked Baylor from what was one of the best games of the season. This will be one of the bigger games this weekend with the winner likely setting themselves up perfectly to possibly make it into the College Football Playoff.
