ACC Championship: 5 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Clemson v Virginia
If Virginia hopes to pull off the big upset in this game, they will need to get the performance of a lifetime from Bryce Perkins. He has basically been the Cavaliers’ offense this season as he is the leading passer and rusher on the team in 2019. The dual-threat quarterback has racked up 2,949 passing yards with 687 rushing yards and 27 total touchdowns.
Perkins projects as a late-round draft pick who can be an athletic backup quarterback and solid spot starter. He has improved significantly as a passer this season but is still very inconsistent. Perkins tends to be a one read and run type of passer and struggles when he has to get through progressions quickly. He displays solid accuracy and arm strength on his passes and is able to make all the throws. Perkins is at his most dangerous, however, when he is able to get outside of the pocket and create explosive plays with his legs.
Perkins will need to be on point as a passer and devastating on the ground for Virginia to keep up with the talented Clemson offense. The Tiger defense will arguably be the toughest he has faced all season. Clemson will likely use a spy on Perkins for much of the game to limit his running ability. Virginia is the underdog, but this is a massive opportunity for Perkins to make himself some more money in the 2020 NFL Draft with a strong performance.
