ACC Championship: 5 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch in Clemson v Virginia
AJ Terrell is another name on the Tigers’ roster that close followers of the team likely already know. Much like Tee Higgins, however, he gets lost in the shuffle in a stacked 2020 cornerback class. Terrell has been the shutdown cornerback for Clemson this season and has rarely been targeted by quarterbacks. That explains his modest stats for this season with only 21 total tackles, one pass breakup, and two interceptions.
Terrell is perfectly suited for what the NFL now looks for at the cornerback position. He has a long and lean build as he is listed at 6’1″ and 190 pounds. He is an excellent athlete that can fit in all types of coverage schemes. He shows flexible hips and quick feet to mirror receivers on a variety of routes. While he isn’t the most aggressive, Terrell will stick his nose in and help in the run game. If there is a concern with his game, it would be that he tends to let his eyes wander in zone coverage and lose track of receivers in his area.
Terrell has been a key piece of Clemson’s excellent defense this season. He has basically shut down his receiver and side of the field game in and game out. He will be tested on Saturday by the likes of Joe Reed, Terrell Jana, and Hasise Dubois, all of whom have NFL potential. If Terrell plays to the same level he has performed at all season, then the Tigers defense will have no problems slowing down the Virginia offense.
