858. Scouting Report. RB. Patrick Taylor Jr.. 6. Pick Analysis. Memphis. player

Patrick Taylor Jr. has just recently returned to the lineup for the Tigers after missing eight games in the middle of the year due to an unspecified foot injury he suffered in the first game of the season. He saw a major dip in his touches since returning due to the breakout of freshman Kenneth Gainwell this season. After rushing for over 1,100 yards in 2018, Taylor has tallied 59 carries, 262 yards, and four touchdowns in the four games he has played in this season.

Taylor is a bigger back and 6-foot-3, 227 pounds and he knows how to use it. He is a powerful back who is hard to bring down on first contact and runs through tackles with ease. Despite his big frame, Taylor actually shows some good burst and wiggle in the open field. He has also shown the ability to be a solid receiving option out of the backfield. He has even lined up in the slot receiver position at times. One key area that is a big question mark on Taylor is his vision or ability to find a running lane.

It’s a shame that Taylor got hurt in the season opener of his senior season. Especially when you consider he was set up to be the feature back for the Tigers. In the game last week versus Cincinnati, he only had 10 carries for 25 yards. Expect him to be a bigger part of the gameplan this week as he continues to get stronger in his return from injury. The powerful Taylor and explosive Gainwell make an excellent running back tandem that will be tough for Cincinnati to slow down.
