2020 NFL Draft: Big Ten championship stock up report
14
KJ Hill WR
Scouting Report
Coming into the season, KJ Hill was widely thought of the Buckeyes best offensive prospect as a dynamic receiving threat. His stock has since cooled off as other prospects on that side of the ball have burst onto the scene. Saturday night he showed up as the teams leading receiver which was refreshing to see.
Hill has a lot to like about his game despite lacking some size at 6’0” and 195lbs. He has really good abilities to be a versatile player you move around in the offense at the next level. He plays the position with a smooth level of athletic ability, making things look natural. He shows very good burst out of his stance when accelerating into his route.
Hill shows good speed to be a vertical threat that can create consistent separation, especially in zone coverage with good mental awareness of where the holes in the zone are. Uses very good quickness to break off routes cleanly while in man coverage. Hill sinks is hips and distributes his weight evenly so that he can be balanced coming in and out of breaks. Once he catches the ball, he is a threat to rack up yards due to very good elusiveness in the open field.
Elusiveness allows him to be threat as a returner as well which drives up his value. Confident and soft hands to go out of his frame and display great body control to make difficult catches. Isn’t a victim of double catching the ball due to natural hands that catch the ball consistently catch the ball cleanly.
Hill showed up at the right time of the season with the Big Ten title on the line. He took a step back this year to allow other receivers in the offense to shine despite him having a chance to shatter the Ohio State receptions record. KJ Hill will offer a team very good value as a sleeper in a strong class of wide receiver prospects in the deep 2020 NFL Draft class.
