2020 NFL Draft: 3 round mock for 5 playoff eliminated teams
By Seth Steere
James Bradberry has had quite the season as the number one corner for the Panthers and Donte Jackson would be much better suited in the slot, which they could do after selecting Kristian Fulton. Fulton is one of the best cover corners in the draft and paired with Bradbury on one side and Jackson in the slot, the Panthers would appear to have one of the best secondaries heading into the 2020 season.
Fulton is at his best in press-man coverage, which will allow the Panthers to get after the quarterback however they may choose to do so. With Rivera on the way out, the defense the Panthers will run next year is up in the air, but Fulton should not have little issues adjusting to whatever coverage the coordinator decides to run with.
Carolina relies on their run game and Christian McCaffrey to win them games with the loss of Cam Newton earlier in the season. Whether they decide to keep Cam or not, McCaffrey will still be a huge part of the Panthers offense and getting a guy who can help open up holes on the inside for him is huge and that’s exactly what Nick Harris can do.
Harris is one of the better run-blockers in his class showing the ability to get to second level blocks, and cutting off defenders. He has the requisite athleticism necessary to get to reach blocks and paired with his footwork should have no issues doing so in the NFL.
Harris will be a great addition to the run-game in Carolina.
Eric Reid has done a decent job for the Panthers, but he is what he is and an upgrade at the position is never a bad thing. Carolina recently signed Reid to an extension last season but could get rid of him for a decent price, if they choose to go that route.
The Panthers struggle to defend the run and getting a hybrid safety like Hamsah Nasirildeen could help to solve those issues. He has proven to be a great tackler moving downhill and for his size, 6’4″, 215 pounds, he has great athletic ability.
He doesn’t have the best ball skills, but with Tre Boston manning the middle behind him he will have the freedom to play the run game, giving the Panthers much needed support against the run, an area they have been struggling to defend all season.
