Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Ohio State. Chase Young. player. 812. EDGE. 2

If a team other than the Cincinnati Bengals, who desperately need a new quarterback, were projected to have to number one overall pick in 2020 Chase Young would probably be the slam dunk top pick. As it stands, however, he will likely be taken at least in the Top Three as arguably the top prospect available in the entire draft.

Young has been nothing short of dominant in 2019 for the Buckeyes. If him getting invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony as a defensive player wasn’t enough evidence, then you could just look at his stats to come to that conclusion. He recorded at least a sack in all but the last two games when teams started to really scheme away from him. He also recorded multiple sacks in six of his 11 games played this season. He broke the Ohio State school record for sacks in a season with 16.5 to go along with 21.5 tackles for loss. And Young accomplished all that despite dealing with a two-game suspension in the middle of the season!

Ohio State has cranked out some really good defensive linemen in recent years including the Bosa brothers, Joey and Nick. Chase Young might be the best NFL prospect out of all of them. He has prototypical size, strength, and explosiveness. He can win as a pass rush in a variety of ways- bull rush, power, speed, or technique. Young also has better hand usage at this point in his career than either Joey or Nick Bosa. Basically, in 2019, it took multiple blockers to even attempt to slow down Chase Young.

As stated earlier, Chase Young is a surefire top three pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He is arguably the top overall prospect regardless of position as well as the safest pick in the entire draft. He has everything thing NFL teams look for in an edge prospect. He has the size, strength, speed, explosiveness, and hand usage to be a force right away at the next level. It would honestly be a shock if Young doesn’t have a similar impact as a rookie as probable Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa has had this season.
