Summary

Akers spent most of his time trying to make something out of nothing behind what was often poor blocking upfront but was still able to be productive in spite of it. He was able to slip through the small creases ahead of him making the most out of very little.

He will likely fit best in a downhill running scheme (i.e Carolina Panthers), where he can keep his eyes looking down fields as opposed to the sideline in a wide zone scheme like the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams like to run. He operates much better when he knows which hole to hit and where it’s going to be rather than having to find his own gap to hit.

Akers is a great pass blocker and with improvements as a pass-catcher, he could find himself as a bell-cow back in the NFL for whatever team decides to select in the draft. It’s not often you come across a running back with his pass blocking prowess this early in their career — may be having a poor offensive line isn’t so bad.

Playing for an underwhelming Florida State team, Akers has been forgotten about by most, with other talents (Chuba Hubbard, and JK Dobbins to name a few) emerging around him. Some team will fall in love with his pass blocking ability and come away with a steal in the 2020 NFL draft.
