Scouting Report

Chase Young is the exception when it comes to building a defense up the middle; he has absolutely dominated college football and is undoubtedly the best player in this 2020 NFL Draft class. We only get to see him make a mockery of college offensive lines for a couple more games but don’t worry he’ll make NFL lineman look silly here soon too.

Chase Young has elite upfield burst that is jaw dropping for a guy who stands at 6-5 and 265lbs. He often finds himself in the backfield before the offensive tackle can even begin their pass pro set. Young is seemingly always right on time, making a big play in the backfield on almost every crucial down.

He can beat you with his upfield burst or he can overwhelm you with his strength and blow right through you. One of the biggest improvements in his game so far this year has been his ability to use his hands to get him free; the improved hand usage has given him more of an arsenal as a pass rusher who needed to develop counter moves. Granted, he probably doesn’t need any counter moves at this point in his career because he gets where he wants at any time he wants.

Young doesn’t come with many holes to his game as there isn’t anything else that he can do at this level. A team that doesn’t believe in the quarterbacks of this class can feel safe selecting Chase Young number one instead which is quite the consolation prize. Chase Young is a rare edge rushing prospect who is going to be a consistent double-digit sack guy who creates a high number of pressures from day one.
