Build it and the quarterback will come, 2020 NFL Draft and beyond
Now that we have built our team properly at the cornerstone positions from this class, it’s time to look ahead and get our finishing piece. By now you’ve probably been made aware of the two generational quarterback talents in next year’s class with Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence.
Getting those guys could cost you a king’s ransom if you don’t get the top pick so let’s offer a third quarterback who is going to be a top 20-overally player in his own right. Here are your three options to choose from, not in the 2020 NFL Draft, but in the 2021 NFL Draft

Trevor Lawrence QB
Scouting Report
The world got a glimpse of this generational passer on the biggest stage of them all last year as he led Clemson to a national championship as a true freshman. He started the season in a sophomore slump which is expected of a young quarterback. Over the last month he has been back to showing everyone why he is going to put his name in the best quarterback prospect ever talks. Lawrence has an amazing poise about him for such a young age.
Just to add a cherry on top, he has good mobility out of the pocket to be dangerous as a scrambler. His pocket movement is picturesque with very quick feet. His throwing mechanics are flawless as he flicks the ball with a lightning quick release that delivers darts.
His touch and accuracy is something to behold as a quarterback who has all the makings to be the best QB prospect since Andrew Luck. Trevor Lawrence is only scratching the surface of what has the early looks of being the new standard for quarterback prospects.

Justin Fields QB
Scouting Report
Justin Fields is the reason why Trevor Lawrence doesn’t have the QB1 spot wrapped up for next year. Fields is a generational talent in his own right with wicked arm talent as well. People have to keep in perspective that this is his first year playing meaningful snaps and he decided to be a Heisman finalist just because he could.
Throwing 40 touchdowns and only one interception is quite the way to welcome the college football world to your skillset. Fields has just as much arm talent as Lawrence, he just has some bumps that you would expect to see from a first-year starter. Fields’ calling card that can put him over the top is matching elite level arm talent with elite running ability.

Combining the two is what has him making the QB1 race next year closer than what people think as of right now but be patient. Next year we will see these two more experienced and at their best duking it out for the spot. Unfortunately, all we get until then is a matchup between the two on December 28th at 8pm on the biggest stage which is the college football playoffs. I guess that duel on a big stage will have to do for now.

Davis Mills QB
Scouting Report
Your team missed out on Fields and Lawrence or didn’t have the king’s ransom to move up for them? No worries, there is another very capable option that has franchise quarterback potential. Stanford quarterback Davis Mills came in as a highly touted high school prospect but had to wait his turn behind K.J. Costello.
With Costello missing time this year due to injury, Mills has stepped up and given glimpses of the talent that generated so much buzz before he got to Stanford. He’s shown very good poise in his playing time this year which is good for a guy who has only made seven career starts. His mechanics are beautiful and he has a compact release that generates good velocity on his throws.
There’s good touch and accuracy on his throws to all areas of the field. Stanford’s offense doesn’t call for a lot of deep shots so it will be interesting to see how he develops as a deep ball thrower. Davis Mills is eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft but a lack of film will bring him back to school next year. Like Fields, he’s in his first year playing meaningful snaps but he has shown the ability to be a guy that we look for as a first-round quarterback in next year’s class.
