Other UNC-Charlotte Players to Watch

Cam Clark, Offensive Tackle

Cam Clark is a powerful redshirt senior who has been the starting left tackle for the 49ers the past two seasons. In each of those seasons, he has received First Team All-C-USA conference honors. He is an absolute beast and people mover in the run game. Just look at what he did versus Clemson earlier in the year:

His size (6-foot-5, 294 pounds) makes him a borderline tackle prospect at the next level and may be asked to move inside to guard. But when you are that powerful in the run game, you will get the attention of NFL teams. Clark will be key to the success of the Charlotte offense today. He should get added to a roster as an undrafted free agent in the spring if he isn’t chosen in the late rounds.

Benny Lemay, Running Back

Another UNC-Charlotte player to watch in this game is the running back Benny Lemay. He is a senior who has been the workhorse for the 49ers the past two season surpassing 1,000 rushing yards in both 2018 and 2019. He is a bit undersized for the NFL at 5-foot-9 and 215 pounds, but he has a lower center of gravity which allows him to run with good power. Lemay is another UNC-Charlotte player who may not get draft in April but could find himself on a roster in August for training camp.

One interesting tidbit is that Lemay actually gained the most rushing yards by a single running back versus the excellent defense of College Football Playoff participant Clemson. Lemay will have to be a workhorse once again today if the 49ers want to come out of their first bowl game ever with a victory.
