Stanford TE Colby Parkinson declares for the 2020 NFL Draft

In a weak tight end class, Stanford’s Colby Parkinson has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft with the potential to rise by the time April rolls around.

Stanford’s Colby Parkinson has become the latest of many Cardinals to abandon their final year of eligibility to head for the professional level. The 6’7 251 tight end has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft after completing his junior season with a stat line of 48 receptions for 589 yards and just one touchdown.

He definitely suffered a loss in production as the Cardinal had a myriad of health issues and inconsistencies at quarterback. Parkinson had seven touchdowns as a sophomore with a much better yards per catch average with 16.7 than this season where he had just 12.3 yards per catch.

He’s one of the better receivers at the position as he was frequently the only weapon that opposing defenses had to respect on a weekly basis. Parkinson isn’t the greatest athlete and has issues with blocking inline. The frame may also be an issue as to how much weight can he put on without losing athleticism.

Physically, he profiles as the next Devin Funchess given his tweener body and lack of ideal blocking skills. In a weak class of tight ends, Parkinson has a chance to rise above the rest when the NFL Scouting Combine comes around in March.

He was selected to the Pac-12 second team this past regular season. It is yet to be determined if he will participate in any all star events. Stanford did not attain bowl eligibility as they struggled to a 4-8 record. Parkinson is in, and the tight end class of the 2020 NFL Draft got much longer and more versatile.
