USC vs Iowa: 2020 NFL Draft prospects to watch in the 2019 Holiday Bowl
By Joseph Yun
94 A.J. Epenesa 6’6 280 EDGE Junior
It can be argued that he is the best EDGE prospect in the nation. Some have erroneously compared him to J.J. Watt. While not on Watt’s level, he’s a very strong edge prospect. Power is the name of his game, not athleticism. Position and scheme versatile. Epenesa hasn’t decided on the draft but it’s expected that he will consider declaring early. He has had two solid years of consistent production, posting 10.5 sacks and nine sacks, respectively in 2018 and 2019. He has also increased his tackle totals every season so that’s a good sign.
74 Tristan Wirfs 6’5 322 OT Junior
Wirfs is one of the best tackles in the nation. Unreal athleticism for a tackle. Strength is a plus as well. Footwork is a major plus as he knows how to anchor in his base and move quickly very adeptly. He should dominate the Combine drills should he go pro. If he elects to declare for the draft, he should be a consensus top ten selection. Wirfs is primarily the right tackle for Iowa but can play the left tackle with ease.
77 Alaric Jackson 6’6 320 OT RS Junior
The Hawkeyes’ other bookend tackle is a good prospect in his own right. OL IQ is above average. He’s an underrated athlete that can move to the second level with pace. A mountain at 6’7. Could play inside at guard or move to right tackle at the next level after being the left tackle in college. Experienced as he has started every game at left tackle the past two seasons with very low pressures allowed grade, according to Pro Football Focus. His draft status is unknown as of press time.
