Another underclassman running back has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, as University of Miami’s DeeJay Dallas has decided to forego his senior season.
In a heartfelt video posted to his Twitter account, Miami Hurricanes’ running back DeeJay Dallas has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft. He has reportedly signed with former Hurricane receiver Ahmmon Richards’ agency. In a deep running back class, his status as a prospect remains up in the air.
The former Hurricanes running back had some injury issues in 2019, forcing him to miss several games during the closing stretch of 2019. Dallas was Miami’s leading rusher despite the injuries after he posted a line of 116 carries for 694 yards and eight touchdowns at a six yards per carry rate.
He also caught 14 receptions for 140 yards and two touchdowns. He leaves Coral Gables with a career stat line of 265 carries for 1,527 yards and 17 touchdowns to go with 28 receptions for 317 yards and two touchdowns.
He’s more of an in between the tackles type of back rather than a home run hitter on the outside due to a lack of athleticism on the perimeter. Dallas has good size for a running back at a listed 5’10 214. He’s an absolute bear to bring down in the maelstrom that is the tackle box. He doesn’t possess the home run speed to run away from defenders and uses agility rather than pure unadulterated speed to ward off defenders.
Dallas’ main strength is his vision and instincts while feeling out defenders to make them miss. He always keeps his feet constantly moving forward and rarely takes a loss. While he hasn’t been used in the passing game as much as one would like in his career, he has shown the ability to make the tough catches count.
A true orange and green bred Hurricane that gave nearly everything he could for the struggling program that clearly has seen better days in the past. His time in South Beach has come to an end, and his time to prepare for the 2020 Draft is underway.
