Boise State EDGE Curtis Weaver declares for 2020 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
After tallying 13.5 sacks as a redshirt junior with the Boise State Broncos, pass rusher Curtis Weaver has decided to declare for the 2020 NFL Draft.
There will not be a player in this year’s draft class with more career sacks than Boise State’s pass rusher Curtis Weaver. As of today, Weaver has declared for the 2020 NFL Draft and will hear his name called in the top-50 when the extravaganza rolls around in April.
Weaver will skip his senior season of eligibility in Boise, Idaho in order to pursue his dreams of playing in the National Football League. In his three years with the Broncos, it is hard to find a player who has been more productive than Weaver has been; he finishes his time on the Smurf Turf with 34 career sacks, 47.5 career tackles behind the line of scrimmage, six passes batted down at the line of scrimmage, and even two interceptions.
In 2019, Weaver had his most successful season of his career, recording 13.5 sacks, 19.5 tackles for loss, three passes batted down, one interception, and one forced fumble. Looking to follow in the footsteps of the last Boise State pass rusher to make it in the NFL, Demarcus Lawrence of the Dallas Cowboys, Weaver has a polished skillset to make it at a professional level.
Listed at 6-3 and 245 pounds, Weaver provides vibes of Derek Barnett of the Philadelphia Eagles: he is not an elite athlete, but uses his technique and savvy to make plays in the backfield. Weaver is in, and while it is slim, his chances of being a first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft are not dead.
