2020 NFL Draft: Receivers dominate end-of-season mock draft
The Broncos need assistance on the offensive line, no doubt. Free agency may be a better option with their draft position in consideration. Still, Jedrick Wills is a fine right tackle prospect. He won’t step in and instantly be Lane Johnson, but he has the potential to groom under O-line coach Mike Munchak into a top right tackle in the league.
How the mighty fall. Playing for the underachieving Iowa Hawkeyes has made AJ Epenesa’s stock cold. It will be a difficult thing to recover as he isn’t the first name to expect to light up the combine numbers. Still, he is an excellent prospect, and quite the steal for the Falcons at 16.
He will fill a hole in Dan Quinn’s defense that remains from the likely departure of Adrian Clayborn as a strong side pass rusher who isn’t above making plays in the run game. His versatility to play inside and out effectively would be a welcome service to the Falcons defense.
I’ll admit, this is way too low of a spot for Isaiah Simmons and the Cowboys would be the bandits off the draft coming away with him here. But, it’s the nature of the draft and could very well be a possibility because of Simmons’s versatility.
Is he too big for safety or too small for a linebacker? It shouldn’t really be a discussion in this day and age of football, but the NFL Draft is where over-complication and nit-picky analysis make their living. For the Cowboys, Simmons joins the talented defense primarily as a safety. The familiarity of the position, seeing as that’s his position for Clemson, will make his transition smooth.
Simmons is a talent who will explode at the combine. He’s one of the most fun talents to watch in this process and his tape backs up the expectations.
