University of Wisconsin-Madison wide receiver Quintez Cephus officially declares his intentions to enter the 2020 NFL Draft.

The 2020 NFL Draft was already loaded at the wide receiver position while being billed as one of the best and deepest wide receiver classes in years. It just became even stronger with the announcement that Wisconsin wide receiver Quintez Cephus has thrown his name into the draft pool as well.

Cephus was the go-to receiving target for quarterback Jack Coan all season. He finished the year with a solid 59 catches for 901 yards and 7 touchdowns. Perhaps more importantly though, was the fact that he had his best games against the toughest competition. In fact, two of his 100+ yard receiving games came in the Badgers’ biggest games against the toughest competition in Minnesota and Ohio State.

Cephus has prototypical size at 6-foot-1 and 207 pounds. He uses his size and strength well to consistently make contested catches thru contact. He is also a terror after the catch with the ability to run over smaller defenders as well as make some defenders miss. While definitely not the fastest receiver in this draft class, Cephus has shown the ability to stretch the defense vertically. That is no more evident than on this play where he beats the Minnesota defense down the middle of the field for a touchdown:

Cephus does need to work on running more crisp routes at the next level. He will also probably get dropped down draft boards due to not having the elite vertically speed or quickness. As a middle-round pick, however, he offers the physicality and contested-catch ability to be a factor on the outside in the NFL. He may not get the hype as other receivers in this draft class, but Quintez Cephus is not a name you will want to forget moving forward.
