Round 2 Pick 37

Pick one of the following positions to draft:

Quarterback

Whether the Chargers keep Phillip Rivers or not, they need to start thinking long term with their quarterback situation. Tyrod Taylor is currently the back-up quarterback, the former Buffalo Bills starter. Taylor is a serviceable back-up, but not a long term starter.

or

Cornerback

Casey Hayward is getting older and it will be time for a facelift soon. A versatile corner with playmaking ability would give this defense a facelift that only had four interceptions from their corners combined this season. In order to make the defensive unit more well rounded, an upgrade could be considered.

The pick is in!

With the thirty-seventh pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers select:

Jalen Hurts, QB Oklahoma

Enter Jalen Hurts, the Heisman runner-up this past season. Hurts transferred from Alabama to Oklahoma last season, and was unleashed in Lincoln Riley’s air raid spread scheme. Hurts showed immense improvement as a passer, going through progressions, and decision making down the field. Hurts reminds me of a miniature Cam Newton while he is running, and looks like Dak Prescott did when he came out of Mississippi State as a passer. There is some upside to his game that cannot be passed on with this pick.

or

Jeff Gladney, CB TCU

Gladney is a fast, rangy, ball hawk who can play inside or outside. His versatility to cover both running backs and tight ends makes him an interesting prospect for the Chargers. He will be a plug and play type of player who can play in man and zone schemes due to his athleticism and mental acuity. He projects to be a quality starter at the next level at the cornerback position.
