Round 3 Pick 71

Pick one of the following positions to draft:

Linebacker

The Chargers have a defensive front that works very well, with Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa bringing substantial pressure off of the edges. I think a major part of the Chargers’ defensive problems was from not being able to defend the intermediate level. The linebacker group could use a serious facelift.

or

Interior Defensive Line

Stopping the run was a serious problem for the Chargers this season, giving up just over 1800 yards on the ground while averaging 4.2 yards per carrying and giving up 15 touchdowns this season. Having a strong presence in the middle gives this 4-3 defense some help stopping the run.

The pick is in!

With the seventy-first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers select:

Zach Baun, LB Wisconsin

Zack Baun is a senior linebacker from Wisconsin, a school that prides themselves on being very physical and disciplined. Baun would be a fantastic option for the Chargers in the sense that he has intelligence and knows how to position himself on the field to take plays away down the field. Baun is going to Mobile to perform in the Senior Bowl, wh will be a huge test to where people question his speed and quickness.

or

Leki Fotu, IDL Utah

Fotu is explosive off the snap allowing him to plug gaps quickly and effectively. He plays and wins with excellent strength in his upper body. Although he will need to clean his technique up in order to be more effective at leveraging his large, strong body, he will be able to learn this quickly. He projects as a run defensive tackle that plays on rushing downs, however, his ability to penetrate gaps gives him upside as a pass rusher as well.
