3 Stefanski linked free agents that could alter Cleveland Browns draft plans
By Randy Gurzi
We know where the Browns need help, but they might not have to lean solely on the 2020 NFL Draft. These 3 players with links to Kevin Stefanski could help.
This past season was one to forget for the Cleveland Browns. They had high hopes with the addition of Odell Beckham, Jr. and Kareem Hunt on offense as well as Sheldon Richardson and Greedy Williams on defense. How will they, and new head coach Kevin Stefanski, prepare for free agency and the 2020 NFL Draft?
However, they were unable to fill some of their bigger holes such as the offensive line. That group was made weak due to a trade that sent Kevin Zeitler to the New York Giants as well as the failure of Austin Corbett to take his spot.
They also had some problems at tackle as Greg Robinson and Chris Hubbard were less than ideal at left and right tackle respectively. There were also problems with depth and a drop off in play from safety Damarious Randall.
Now with a new coach in Kevin Stefanski, they look to make good on the hype from a season ago but have to first fill those holes — and many more.
However, not all of the moves have to come from the draft. Here we look at some free agents with ties to their new coach that could change the team’s approach to the draft.
Notable omission: Trevor Siemian, QB
Not exactly a name that jumps out, but the Browns could stand to add a savvy veteran backup quarterback and Trevor Siemian is set for free agency. Siemian spent 2018 with the Vikings, working with Stefanski before joining the New York Jets this season.
He was injured in a game against the Browns, after a late-hit from Myles Garrett. But Siemian should be fully recovered and could help Baker Mayfield learn a new system since he has some familiarity with it.
This one just misses the top 3 however, since they probably won’t draft a quarterback to be second-string.
