The 49ers nearly had the win in Super Bowl LIV, but fell short. Here we look to continue building their roster in this 7-round 2020 NFL Draft simulation

Well, it’s on to the 2020 NFL Draft now, I guess. They nearly pulled it off. Facing one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers entered the final 15 minutes of Super Bowl LIV with a 10-point lead. Even more impressive, they had limited Patrick Mahomes and the high-flying Kansas City Chiefs offense to just 10 points.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t hold on. The final was 31-20, but that score was skewed some by a late touchdown run from Damien Williams. Before that run, this was a four-point game in the final 90 seconds and the 49ers had a shot to pull it out. Hey, they even had Emmanuel Sanders running free for what would have been a go-ahead touchdown but Jimmy Garoppolo just missed him on the deep pass.

It was a game of missed chances and in the end, the San Francisco bench was full of players who were full of emotion as they saw the game slip away. As hard as that had to be for them to swallow, they should still be proud. They played a great game and despite being discounted all season, they proved they belonged in this game.

And the best part, this team is still young and improving. The core of their roster is set to return meaning they can continue to build toward a perennial contender. There will be a few questions to answer this offseason, with one of the biggest being what to do with Emmanuel Sanders.

He was a fantastic addition but did cost them a third and fourth-round pick in this draft. San Francisco needs to do all they can to re-sign him as he really helped open up the offense. Other than that, they will have to make sure to hit their first-round pick since they are without a selection in Rounds 2 through 4 due to the trade for Dee Ford and Sanders.

Here we try and help in that regard as we look ahead to the 49ers draft with this 2020 7-round NFL Mock Draft.
