Mike Zimmer is a defensive guy, and that shows here as the Vikings spend much of their resources on that side in this 7-round 2020 NFL Draft mock

It was another season that ended short of the goal for the Minnesota Vikings. A team that made the NFC Championship Game in 2017, the Vikings believed they were just a step away from being in the Super Bowl — and possibly winning it all. On to the 2020 NFL Draft for them.

The following offseason, they felt they made the move they needed to in order to take that final step. Minnesota allowed Case Keenum to leave in free agency and in came Kirk Cousins. The former Washington Redskins starter had just put together three-straight seasons with 4,000-plus yards passing but hit the open market.

Convinced he was the missing piece, Minnesota gave him a three-year, $84 million contract which was 100 percent guaranteed. So far, it hasn’t paid off but Cousins and the Vikings did get into the second round of the playoffs this season before losing to the San Francisco 49ers — who just fell short of the Lombardi Trophy themselves in Super Bowl LIV.

Now heading into the final year of his fully-guaranteed contract, Cousins will want to do all he can to make good on his deal — which was signed with the expectation that they would be able to win it all. He will need to do his part but the team has to as well.

With that in mind, they get back to work in this 7-round mock draft which is heavy on defense. That should be expected, considering they already have a lot of offensive firepower and head coach Mike Zimmer is all about winning with defense.
