Scouting Report

The time has come for the Texans to put an end to the Lamar Miller era after the veteran running back missed all of last season with an injury. Filling in for him was Carlos Hyde, who is set to hit the market and was just a stopgap in the Texans’ rushing attack anyway. They also have Duke Johnson Jr. on the roster, but he is best suited as a third down weapon out of the backfield than a full time starter.

Here the Texans add a young and talented running back who slipped into the fourth round of this mock draft in Florida State’s Cam Akers. Despite running behind a subpar Seminole offensive line for three seasons, Akers flashed on film and will likely be a top five back taken in the draft.

Scouting Report

Despite acquiring Gareon Conley from the Oakland (now Las Vegas) Raiders at the deadline a year ago, cornerback remains a need for the Texans. Here they land a Reese’s Senior Bowl standout in Notre Dame’s Troy Pride Jr. in order to bulk up their secondary and attempt to stop the likes of Patrick Mahomes in the postseason in the future.

Pride has been a riser of late, especially after his week in Mobile, Alabama last month, but here he was still on the board as the fourth round was winding down. In an attempt to get younger at the cornerback position, the Texans land Pride here.
