Looking at Ruiz’ film

The 6-4 and 319 pound center pops off the tape and looks like a well-rounded prospect who can be a plug and play starter from day one at the next level. His awareness, footwork, and hand placement and usage are among his best traits displayed on film, but that is not to say his anchor strength and mobility are lacking as they are also both above average as well.

Ruiz gets to the second level and parallel to the boundaries on screens well for his size, considering he carries some bad weight still. His footwork in his pass sets are impeccable as he has a great first step, a wide base, and shows a high level of awareness to what is happening around him as he switches with ease in his zone pass blocking scheme.

He plays with a low center of gravity as he fires out of his stance, and always seems to be playing with great balance as he lifts opposing defenders. Continuing with his strength as a run blocker, Ruiz frames off rush lanes well, clearing a path for his running back teammate to hit the second and third level with ease.

We will now take a look at the weaknesses in Ruiz’ game.
