2020 NFL Draft: Colorado WR Laviska Shenault avoids surgery
By Cory Kinnan
The 2020 NFL Draft has a talented crop of receivers ready to make a name for themselves. Among them is Laviska Shenault, who got some good news this week.
Throughout the 2019 season, Colorado wide receiver Laviska Shenault has been hampered by a groin injury that would not cease. This week the star receiver, who is looking to become a first round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, was diagnosed with osteitis pubis, an inflammation of the pubic bone; however Shenault did get some good news: he will avoid any surgery in order to repair.
The main problem remains, however: the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine takes place in less than two weeks in Indianapolis, Indiana. The uber-athletic Shenault is expect to post eye-popping numbers at the event, but the question must be asked as to whether or not Shenault will be healthy enough to perform well.
Currently sitting as this writer’s fifth best wide receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft, Shenault has been mocked in the first round in the majority of draft simulations, and insane testing numbers could all but solidify that. However, if he were to miss or underperform at the combine later this month due to his inflamed pubic bone, then his draft stock could slip into early day-two of the draft.
The 6-2 and 220 pound wide receiver finished his collegiate career with nearly 2,000 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns on 149 catches for the Buffs. After a 1,000 yard receiving season as a sophomore in 2019, Shenault’s production took a dip a bit as a junior, partially due to his nagging injury; this season he posted just 764 yards and four scores on 56 catches.
As he is one of the best receivers in this class, we can all hope that he is good to go by the end of this month at the combine. By the time April rolls around, Laviska Shenault could hear his name called on the first night of the 2020 NFL Draft.
