Small school studs set to dominate 2020 NFL Draft
By Cory Kinnan
TE Adam Trautman, Dayton
Last but certainly not least is tight end Adam Trautman from the University of Dayton. While the Flyers’ basketball team may be a top-ten program in the country right now, the football team remains at a Division I-AA designation. This, however, has not stopped Trautman from becoming this writer’s top rated tight end in the 2020 NFL Draft class.
Adam Trautman benefits from entering into a weak crop of tight ends, but also finds himself rated at the top of his positional big board because, simply put, he is a really good football player. With a balance of receiving and blocking ability, Trautman truly stands out from the rest of the class down the field and at the catch point.
Any ball that gets close to the gigantic 32½ inch arms and nearly 10 inch mits of Trautman is likely to come down in his possession. This year for the Flyers, Trautman racked up numbers that would make one believe EA Sports was still making the NCAA Football video games. The 6-5 and 251 pound tight end reeled in 70 passes for 916 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns as a redshirt senior for the University of Dayton this year.
While Trautman probably will not be the first tight end off the board when the 2020 NFL Draft rolls around, as the likes of Notre Dame’s Cole Kmet and Washington’s Hunter Bryant have been getting all the love, it would be an utter shock to see him fall out of the top-75. One lucky team is going to get a versatile weapon who could elevate to a top tight end in the league in Adam Trautman.
