2020 NFL Draft: 7-Round New York Giants Mock Draft
Round 4, Pick 100: Troy Dye |LB| Oregon
Troy Dye is a beast of a human. More of a positional need more than the best available. Players still on the board are Logan Stenberg and Kyle Dugger but the Giants take Troy Dye. The Giants have had a legit linebacker since their Super Bowl days. Having a legit linebacker could boost this team to the next level on defense.
Troy Dye is 6’4 and weighs in at 225-pounds at a linebacker and projected to run a 4.5 to 4.6 at the NFL Combine. The linebacker position is changing in the NFL, you need a linebacker that can run sideline to sideline now. That is exactly what Dye does. Dye also did some pass-rushing at Oregon, which I think the Giants would also love.
Troy Dye would be working with Alec Ogletree. Ogletree is pretty good in pass coverage but is not very good against the run and also is not the best against the run either. Dye would help Ogletree with the pass coverage and open-field tackling for sure. Dye lacks a bit in the rush defense department. All-round a great fit for the Giants if they can pull this off.
Round 5, Pick 132: Chase Claypool |WR| Norte Dame
The Giants need another weapon on the outside, catching balls from Daniel Jones. That is what Chase Claypool does. Claypool is 6’5, and weighs in at 205-pounds and excepted to run a 4.5 40-yard dash. The Giants need the big goal-line threat guy on the outside, that is what Claypool did at Norte Dame.
To give an example of why the Giants should take him over any other receiver prospect this late. In the red zone, Claypool has 14 touchdown receptions for his four-year career at Norte Dame. Claypool does not really have the breakaway speed to take a slant for a 75-yard touchdown but if you give this kid a 50/50 ball, Claypool is gonna come down with the ball in this hands most of the time.
That is why the Giants need him, to catch red zone balls from Daniel Jones. The Giants struggled inside the red zone last season when the Giants running back Saquon Barkley was hurt. Why not get a 6’5 receiver and throw him jump balls in the end zone?
