Round 6, Pick 163: Antonio Gibson |RB| Memphis

The Giants have Saquon Barkley at running back, why do they need another running back in Antonio Gibson in the 2020 NFL Draft? I am glad you asked, you saw how the running game was when Saquon Barkley got a high ankle sprain in week three.

The running game was nonexistent when Barkley was not in there at running back. Getting a running back like Gibson will help out the Giants and Saquon when he needs a breather. Wayne Gallman days are over in New York. When Gallman was filling in for Saquon when he was hurt, he could not do anything. Gibson was running behind is bad offensive at Memphis. I think this fit makes too much sense not happen.

Gibson is a very similar build to Saquon Barkley but just is not even close to the beast of a human that Saquon is. Gibson is 6’2 and weighs in at 220-pounds while Saquon is 6’1 and weighs in at 230-pounds. Gibson played wide receiver at times and also did some special teams too. Gibson is a playmaker and if he is gonna play running back at the next level, he has the hands for it. The NFL is full of pass-catching running backs and that is Gibson to a tee.

Round 7, Pick 195: Willie Gay Jr. |LB| Mississippi State

FUN FACT: If you are reading this today when I am making this it is Willie Gay’s birthday!

The Giants are gonna with the son of Willie Gay and hopefully get the same production his dad did. Willie Gay is 6’2 and weighs in at 230-pounds. Gay was involved with academic tutor violations. He was able to play eight games this season and recorded 48 tackles on the season. 11 tackles in the Mississippi State’s bowl game, he was all over the field during the Music City Bowl against Louisville.

When you watch his tape, Gay is flying all over the field. Gay is out there stopping the run, stick pass coverage, and making open-field tackles on running backs. Gay’s draft stock would go up if he played this entire season. The Giants are gonna get a very good rotational linebacker in Willie Gay, who can turn into a starter if Alec Ogletree would get traded or even cut.

Round 7, Pick 215: Shyheim Carter |S| Alabama

The New York Giants need to get a defensive back in this draft class. Why not get a versatile defensive back that can play cornerback and safety? That is Shyheim Carter, a guy that can play cornerback and even safety. Carter is more of a safety than cornerback but he can play both. The Giants are a very injury prone team, to be able to get a versatile player in the last round to give their defensive backs some depth is a very good thing.

Carter’s physical attributes are very average for a defensive back. Weighing in at 190-pounds and height is 6’1. Carter will run around a 4.5 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. Carter has very good ball skills when the ball is air and also is aggressive during 50/50 balls. The Giants need to get more physical in the secondary, that is what Carter brings to the table here at the end of the 2020 NFL Draft.
