New head coach Matt Rhule could move on from Cam Newton. If he does, one of these three QB 2020 NFL Draft prospects could be the answer for the Panthers

It’s clear that Cam Newton has not been the same player for the Carolina Panthers during the past two seasons. In 2018, he played through shoulder pain — and other injuries — and while he suited up for 14 games, he never looked like himself.

Newton was shut down for the final two games of that season and eventually had right shoulder surgery. Rumors circulated that his injury was similar to the one Andrew Luck suffered, which ended up costing him a full season after having surgery.

In the end, Newton proved that to be incorrect as he was able to start under center for Carolina in Week 1. Unfortunately, a new injury surfaced as No. 1 was sidelined with a lisfranc fracture and his season was over after just two games.

Since then, the Panthers have undergone some changes. They fired head coach Ron Rivera and replaced him with Matt Rhule, who rose to prominence in the NCAA ranks. The former Baylor coach comes in ready to instill his philosophy and he could be looking to find his own quarterback.

Carolina does have Kyle Allen and Will Grier but neither looks to be the answer. Allen had a great start to his career but then quickly faded. Grier got some starts at the end of the season but finished with zero touchdowns and four interceptions.

This doesn’t mean neither player can develop into a starter but Rhule might prefer to go a different route and draft someone who can be ready quicker. Here, we look at three players who could be on the team’s radar in the 2020 NFL Draft.
