2020 NFL Draft: Mekhi Becton might not be human
By Randy Gurzi
Mekhi Becton is one of the better offensive tackle prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft and his work in the Scouting Combine proves that he might not be human
Usually, when an NFL prospect is over 360-pounds, there’s a belief that they’re just too big. Oftentimes, it’s said they need to shed some weight so they can last in the NFL and not be destroyed by speed rushers.
Then, there’s Mekhi Becton.
A product of Louisville, Becton was measured at 6-foot-7 and 364-pounds. But when you look at the kid, he doesn’t appear to be carrying any excess weight. And then when he ran the 40-yard dash, we saw that he also doesn’t have any issues with speed.
Becton put up an unbelievable 5.11 in the 40-yard dash and had a 1.80 10-yard split according to ESPN’s Field Yates — who called Becton’s performance “absolutely ridiculous.”
Currently, Becton is climbing up draft boards and could become a No. 10 overall pick. He’s a dominant player with more than enough confidence to get the job done. His size and athleticism are more than ideal and he’s also an incredibly long-armed player.
When Becton measured in, he showed that he has a wingspan of 7-feet. For offensive linemen, this is absolutely huge. Far too often, a player is shifted from tackle to guard due to their wingspan (which is almost as annoying as the tired belief that any quarterback under 6-2 is a problem). That won’t be the case here as Becton can keep more than enough space between him and the edge rusher with his go-go gadget arms.
He was already a top prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft, but now he’s trying to prove that he might not be of this earth.
