2. Karl Joseph, Safety, Las Vegas Raiders

When Jon Gruden took over the Oakland Raiders in 2018, it ended up being a bad thing for many of the returning starters as Gruden started to clean house. First to go was former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack. He was traded to the Chicago Bears in a blockbuster deal that sent two first-round picks to Oakland.

More from Dallas Cowboys

Gruden wasn’t done there either, as he later traded Amari Cooper to Dallas in exchange for yet another first-round selection. The coach later sent Gareon Conley to Houston, moving on from yet another one of the previous regimes first-round picks.

Throughout all of the moves, there was one name constantly being mentioned — Karl Joseph. The No. 14 pick out of West Virginia in 2014, Joseph never seemed to fit with Gruden and was often mentioned in trade rumors and Dallas was a likely landing spot.

Now with Joseph hitting free agency, it feels as though it’s the perfect time to bring him to Big D. Joseph would be an instant starter capable of playing more of an enforcer role in the secondary, something they have lacked for years. Adding Joseph would also free them up to draft the best possible player at No. 17 in the 2020 NFL Draft.

At this point, Dallas has to land a safety and they seemingly need to do it right away. However, Joseph changes that urgency and allows them to draft another spot with a huge hole such as cornerback or defensive tackle.
