Washington Redskins: 3 Potential No. 1 wide receivers in 2020 NFL Draft
By Randy Gurzi
1. CeeDee Lamb, Oklahoma
For pretty much anyone who doesn’t have Jerry Jeudy as the No. 1 receiver, that would be due to them putting CeeDee Lamb there — which is where he should be. No disrespect to Jeudy, but Lamb just simply proved during his career with the Oklahoma Sooners that he’s the best receiver in this class.
Also like Jeudy, his numbers at Indy are a mystery. He ran a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash but when you see him on the field, he plays much faster than that. He’s a guy who has long legs and once he starts to stride, he can get past anyone. He showed that this past season as he exploded for 1,327 yards om 62 receptions — an average of 21.4 yards per grab.
While that was a crazy number for so many catches, it wasn’t as if that came from nowhere as Lamb averaged more than 17.5 yards in his first two seasons. He was also a guy that could find his way to the end zone with ease, scoring 32 touchdowns in three seasons.
Of course, he had some elite talent throwing to him with Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray under center in 2017 and 2018 respectively. They each won the Heisman in those campaigns and then Jalen Hurts took over in 2019 and was in the discussion as well for the award.
Lamb would surely love to go from those gun-slingers to Dwayne Haskins who was also a monster in the NCAA. Haskins and Lamb would be great together given Lamb’s ability to get deep and Haskins skill with the deep ball.
However, he’s more than just a one-trick pony. Lamb is as deadly with the shorter and intermediate routes which can really help him when he breaks off his double moves.
Also as is the case with Jeudy, Washington needs to be careful about trading down if Lamb is the target. There’s a very real chance he could be gone in the top-10, and he would be well worth the pick.
