Anthony McFarland, Maryland

Will Maryland Anthony McFarland make it out of the second day of the draft? Unlikely, but should that stop the Rams from hoping he could slide into day-three of the 2020 NFL Draft? Absolutely not.

Explosive on a bargain, McFarland entered the preseason in some writer’s top-five running backs list. However, with a new coaching staff and the departure of Matt Canaday from the University of Maryland, so departed McFarland’s production in 2019 for the Terepins.

After rushing for over 1,000 yards, four touchdowns, and nearly eight yards per carry, McFarland saw his starting job become a market share with Javon Leake. As a result, McFarland managed only just over 600 yards, and eight touchdowns, averaging just five and a half yards per carry.

Do not let the numbers steer away from McFarland as his film still displays explosiveness, versatility, and vision that can only be improved out of the backfield. With immense talent, and at a young age for the position with the shortest shelf life any in the National Football League, the ceiling for McFarland is sky high.

Should McFarland make his way into the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the Rams should find a way to make sure he lands in Los Angeles and to compliment Henderson after the departure of Todd Gurley.
