2020 NFL Draft: Titans 7-round mock draft after securing Tannehill, Henry
By Seth Steere
The Titans placed a franchise tag on running back Derrick Henry. It remains unclear how they feel about Henry and whether or not they want him to return to the team after next season. Not only is Henry’s future with the team up in the air, but they also let back-up running back Dion Lewis go in free agency, so finding Henry a back-up for the year and a potential replacement is quite important for Tennessee this off-season.
Sewo Olonilua presents an interesting option for the Titans, he is about as close to Derrick Henry as your going to get; Olonilua is 6’3″, 232-pounds — still about 15-pounds lighter than Henry. For most of his career at TCU, Olonilua was forced to split carries so a year or two to adjust to a feature role is likely to be the case. Olonilua is likely to never be a 3-down back in the league because of his lack of breakaway speed, but he presents an intriguing option for Tennesse if they choose to move on from Henry.
The Titans have a pretty solid wide receiver room — Adam Humphries, AJ Brown and Corey Davis. Brown burst onto the scene last year for Tennessee averaging over 20 yards-per-reception as a rookie. However, despite the talent on the roster at the position the Titans lack a vertical threat who can take the top off the defense, they have guys who can win underneath (Humphries) and guy’s who can operate with the ball in their hands (Brown) but lack that deep threat. John Hightower could be just that.
Hightower primarily wins downfield on vertical routes, giving the Titans a much-needed field stretcher. Hightower is still raw a receiver prospect and will need time to work on his route running, he route tree was limited in college to mostly vertical routes, but for the time being that should be just fine.
