Trent Williams to Cleveland is once again in the news. But given where the team is right now, does trading for Williams still make sense?

Ever since last offseason, disgruntled Washington Redskins left tackle Trent Williams has been linked to the Cleveland Browns. Former general manager John Dorsey reportedly tried to trade for Williams leading up to last season’s deadline, but Williams’ price remained too high. Now, the relationship between the Redskins and Williams is irreparable, and rumors are swirling that the Browns may still be a potential trade destination. But after adding Jack Conklin in free agency, and with the 2020 NFL Draft coming up shortly, is Williams actually an option for Cleveland?

In order to answer that question, we need to look at three things. First, who Williams is as a player and why he’s even available in the first place. Second, what the Browns offensive line situation is currently as we approach the draft. And lastly, what the cost to acquire Williams will be. With how volatile the Redskins organization has been, the situation is murky, but things seem to be coming to a head, and something is likely to happen prior to the draft.

The Browns have not made any moves at left tackle, so until they do (or Williams is moved elsewhere), this rumor will continue to float around.
