Does move for Trent Williams still make sense for Browns?

The need for a LT in Cleveland

Right now the Browns don’t even have a left tackle. Greg Robinson was not going to be re-signed even before he was arrested for possessing 157 pounds of marijuana with the intent to distribute. He played decently over the second half of 2018 but failed to improve in 2019. He was the second overall selection in 2014 but has failed to live up to his potential.

Williams would instantly improve Cleveland’s offensive line, to the point where it wouldn’t be a stretch to consider them the NFL’s best group. Williams, Joel Bitonio, J.C. Tretter, Wyatt Teller, and Conklin is one heck of a group, with Teller being the obvious weak spot, and he should be able to improve upon his 2019 campaign.

However, Williams isn’t the only LT available this offseason. Cordy Glenn, Kelvin Beachum, and Jason Peters are three solid veterans, with Peters being a future Hall of Famer. All three would cost significantly less than Williams monetarily, and are free agents.

There is also the matter of this draft class. To be frank, it’s absolutely stacked at tackle. Four could go in the top 10 picks, and there is the potential for as many as seven to be first-rounders. Andrew Thomas, Tristan Wirfs, Jedrick Wills Jr., and Mekhi Becton are all options for Cleveland at 10.
