COVID-19 could cause an increased number of entries into the Supplemental Draft as those who did not enter the 2020 NFL Draft may not have a season to play.

The Supplemental Draft has been around for players who did not enter the year’s event, but have had circumstances change. The long term effects of COVID-19 could cause a number of players who did not enter the 2020 NFL Draft to jump the gun and enter the Supplemental Draft as their 2020 collegiate season is in jeopardy.

Players such as Josh Gordon, Terrelle Pryor, and even Jalen Thompson a year ago, have entered the Supplemental Draft after they saw their collegiate season ahead of them taken away from them. All of the players who decided to return to school and forgo the 2020 NFL Draft could have had no clue that the Coronavirus could rip a year of their ability to improve their draft stock away from them.

Will this cause an increased number of NFL hopefuls to jump the gun and declare for the Supplemental Draft? No clue at this point. However, this virus looks to have the entire world shut down as far as early into the summer, and there appears to be no end in sight.

Last year only five players entered this alternative draft option, and historically the number has not hit double-digits in participants. However, the year of 2020 has been a wacky one to this point, and it looks like it could only get weirder. How many NFL hopefuls will regret returning to school now that the outlook of their 2020 season is in question?
