Weaknesses

At 5’9″ and 178 pounds, Hamler faces being pigeon-holed as a slot receiver and, given his lack of experience against press coverage, he is unlikely to receive consistent snaps on the boundary.

His size, diminutive by NFL standards, limits his ability to compete for the ball at its highest point.

Hamler would also benefit from becoming more of a hands-catcher. He has excellent hands but too often he will let the ball into his body rather than attacking it.

Conclusion

Hamler may play solely in the slot at the next level, but that is a starting role in the modern-day NFL and he unquestionably has the talent to develop into one of the premier options at the position.

In 2019, Deebo Samuel showed what kind of impact receivers with the ability to excel out of the backfield can have in the San Francisco 49ers’ run to Super Bowl LIV.

He is not as physical of a runner as Samuel, but there is no reason Hamler cannot be utilized in much the same way right off the bat as a rookie.

The X-factor with Hamler is his speed, if he lands on a coaching staff that can harness his versatility and his upside as a downfield threat, then expect Hamler to rapidly begin tormenting NFL defenses as he did opponents in the Big Ten.
