Browns: WTFP 2020 NFL Draft 3-round staff mock picks and explanations
By Sam Penix
Stefanski’s offense in Minnesota last year used two TEs (12 personnel) quite a bit, but the question is whether that was by intention, or as a result of the Vikings really having only two good receivers.
Austin Hooper was signed in free agency, but that may be more of an indictment of David Njoku than scheme-related. Either way, adding another WR is a good idea because of how ridiculously good this class is, and at the end of the third round, the Browns get perhaps the second-most-explosive WR this year in Penn State’s Hamler.
He didn’t do any drills at the Combine, but Hamler is the type of player that can score legitimately any time he touches the ball. He isn’t even a polished route runner at this point, yet no defensive back could stick with him. He creates separation like it’s just another day at the office.
Hamler’s hands are not great, as he dropped 12 passes last season. But, he turned his 56 grabs into over 900 yards and eight scores. Adding him to Cleveland’s offense would spread things out even more than they already are. He can take the top off the defense, opening up things underneath for the Browns’ other targets. He would also force defenses to not stack the box against the run, giving Chubb more room to run.
