The San Francisco 49ers could go in numerous directions in the 2020 NFL Draft, here we look at five prospects who would fit the bill perfectly for them.

What the San Francisco 49ers will do in the 2020 NFL Draft remains shrouded in mystery.

The 49ers have two selections in the first round having traded DeForest Buckner for the 13th overall pick. With no picks until round five thereafter, the expectation is the Niners will trade down from one of their first-rounders if not both, with San Francisco also selecting at 31.

However, in terms of what positions they will attack, the 49ers can go in almost any direction, with needs at receiver and cornerback as well as both sides of the trenches.

Here we look at five players who should be very high on their board by identifying a quintet of ideal prospects for San Francisco.

The discussion over who should be the first wide receiver off the board has been one of the dominant narratives of draft season.

It is still not clear who will earn that distinction, however, if Lamb is there when the 49ers pick at 13, he will be tough to resist.

The Alabama duo of Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs III can each win early in the route – something head coach Kyle Shanahan places a significant value on. Jeudy does that with his route running while Ruggs can torch defenses with his speed.

But neither of that pair possesses the same contested-catch ability as Lamb. San Francisco has long since lacked a receiver who can dominate in such situations and Lamb’s proclivity for doing so, combined with extraordinary elusiveness after the catch, makes him a superb fit for the 49ers.

Lamb’s arrival would give the Niners a third target who excels with the ball in his hands in space alongside last-year’s second-round pick Deebo Samuel and star tight end George Kittle.

There may be some doubts about Lamb when faced with press coverage having been met with little of it in the Big 12. Yet Shanahan has a reputation for getting the best out of his receivers. Samuel and Kendrick Bourne are proof of that and in Lamb he would have a premier all-round receiving talent in the draft to work with.
