The Bengals, in desperate need of a fresh start, get their franchise quarterback in Joe Burrow with the first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Bengals find themselves sitting at the number one spot this year despite having what is actually a pretty talented roster. The Bengals picking Joe Burrow is one that we all saw coming but couldn’t always be too sure of; they made it official with the first pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Throughout the draft process, Burrow began to make it clear that he wasn’t too keen on playing for the Cincinnati Bengals franchise. Early on, it looked as if we were destined to see an Eli Manning situation where he refuses to play for the team that took him.
The pick is a shot to the arm of the franchise because a lot of what they are missing is a quarterback.
Burrow will come into a situation that finds him with a top tier wideout in AJ Green if he can stay healthy. Barring a holdout, he can expect to have one of the better running backs in the league as well with Joe Mixon lining up behind him. The Bengals can’t afford to miss on this pick after not making a really big splash with their first-round picks since drafting Tyler Eifert in 2013.
Last year the Bengals got their new head coach in Zac Taylor so now it’s time to pair him with his guy for the future. The fate of Taylor’s career moving forward will more than likely rest in the performance of Joe Burrow.
If the Bengals want to see their fortunes change in what is always a competitive AFC North, they’re going to have to make sure the signal caller leading the shots is up for that task. After having one of the greatest quarterback seasons in college football, the Bengals might have just found their franchises savior. Joe Burrow is now the man in Cincinnati and the Bengals will be handing him the keys to the franchise for at least the next five years.
