Falcons upgrade secondary with selection of A.J. Terrell
With the 16th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Atlanta Falcons select A.J. Terrell, cornerback out of Clemson to upgrade their secondary.
With the Atlanta Falcons brought in a few big-name players from free agency and from trades prior to the 2020 NFL Draft. Could the Falcons make a legit run for the playoffs in a tough NFC South after the addition of cornerback A.J. Terrell here?
After cutting bait with Desmond Trufant earlier this offseason, cornerback became a growing concern. After attempts to trade up for Jeff Okudah or C.J. Henderson, the Falcons stood pat and landed Terrell at the midway point of the draft.
The Falcons picked up a one of the best running backs in free agency in Todd Gurley after he was released by the Los Angeles Rams due to contract issues. The Falcons just a few days before had released Devonta Freeman from the team. It looks like the Falcons upgraded from the Freeman to Gurley.
Atlanta let one of the most productive tight ends in the entire NFL walk in free agency this offseason as he ended up signing a four-year deal with the Cleveland Browns in Austin Hooper. When this deal went through Atlanta then traded for a former first-round tight end in Hayden Hurst at just the cost of a fourth round pick.
Now adding Terrell to their defense to replace Desmond Trufant, Atlanta get younger, cheaper, and faster. After a successful career at Clemson, he becomes the third cornerback off the board here in the 2020 NFL Draft as he lands with Hotlanta.
