With the 17th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys select CeeDee Lamb. Adding a premium talent like this shoots them into NFC East contention.

The Dallas Cowboys are facing a critical offseason after parting ways with former long time head coach Jason Garret and hiring the decorated Mike McCarthy. McCarthy spent the previous season away from the NFL, analyzing from the outside. His studying no doubt gave him plenty of intel on their first selection in the 2020 NFL Draft. With the 17th pick, the Cowboys select wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, swiping him from the Eagles.

Lamb no doubt helps them shore up a key position that’s required an infusion of difference-making talent. Adding premium players was no doubt a major concern for the Cowboys heading into the NFL Draft. After losing key pieces in Byron Jones, Jason Witten, and Robert Quinn, Dallas needed to restock on quality players to ensure they can compete in the highly difficult NFC East.

Fortunately, they can pair this selection with quality defensive signings in Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Dontari Poe, and Gerald McCoy, which bolsters their defense significantly.

Lamb can undoubtedly be a contributor on day one, and with successful veterans in their locker room, along with the talented Amari Cooper returning on an extension, Dak Prescott under center, and Ezekiel Elliott toting the rock, the Cowboys are in prime position to not only compete in the NFC East but to compete for higher seeds in the conference in an attempt to return to the playoffs.

Finishing 8-8 last year arguably means that the Cowboys are ready to pounce. It remains to be seen if quarterback Dak Prescott is extended beyond his franchise tag, and how they’ll maneuver through day two and three of the draft. Could a trade be possible in the second? All things are on the table with a team this close to being a true contender. Lamb can definitely be a step in that direction
